Last week, we talked about whether the UK was turning a corner.
Now comes the interesting bit: seeing what happens next.
With the Budget coming on 28 October, there’s plenty to keep an eye on. But you don’t need to spend your week refreshing the news.
Here are the three things worth watching:
- This morning, Tuesday 15 September: the UK jobs and wages release, scheduled for 7am.
- Tomorrow, Wednesday 16 September: August’s inflation figures.
- Thursday 17 September: the Bank of England’s next interest-rate decision.
Together, they’ll give us a better sense of the pressure on households and businesses heading into the Budget.

One company update brought this home last week. Housebuilder Berkeley said enquiries were holding up, but buyers remained cautious, with some potentially waiting until after the Budget. Its update is here.
That’s a useful reminder: an encouraging headline doesn’t tell you everything about what’s happening inside a business.
